Special Moves are a returning feature in Bravely Second: End Layer. As implied, Special Moves (or sometimes called Deathblows) are exceptional and powerful attacks that the player can use in battles. But with great power, come certain conditions. Special Moves always have factors to be fulfilled by the player before they can be used. However, unlike the Special Moves in Bravely Default which had fixed conditions, the Special Moves in Bravely Second are customizable and can be changed to suit the player's setup. Special Moves in the sequel still inherit other unique effects, like the background music changing in accordance to the character using the Deathblow. The duration of a Special Moves' effects are again dependent on how long the BGM lasts, so the player will have to think and act fast to fully utilize those effects. The player will have to rebuild Fort-Lune to unlock more Special Moves, activation conditions and additional effects. Each weapon also has one additional Special Move in Bravely Second.

There are four types of Special Moves: Offensive, Recovery, Enfeebling and Support.

Offensive Type Special Moves are those that deal tremendous amounts of damage, along with special effects.

  • Element - Imbue your attack with an element from seven choices.
  • Power Boost - Increase the power of your Special Move from +10% to up to +50% more damage.
  • Family - Make your move effective against a certain family of monsters.
  • Status Ailment - Give your Special Move a chance to inflict a certain status ailment.

Recovery Type Special Moves are usually a step above normal healing effects, in that they offer not just HP, MP, BP or status ailment recovery, but all at once.

  • HP Recovery - Increase the amount of HP recovered by the Special Move from +10% to up to +50% more HP.
  • Cure Ailment - Status ailment recovery on top of HP recovery.
  • MP Recovery - MP Recovery on top of HP recovery.
  • BP Recovery - BP Recovery on top of HP recovery.

Enfeebling Special Moves are aimed to give enemies various status-lowering effects.

  • Consecutive Turns - Raise the number of turns the Special Move's effects lasts.
  • Debuff - Lower the specific stat of all enemies by 25%.
  • Ailment Enfeeble - Make enemies vulnerable to a certain status ailment.
  • Element Enfeeble - Make enemies vulnerable to a certain element.

Support Special Moves are quite the opposite of Enfeebling ones in that they give the characters beneficial effects instead.

  • Ailment Resist - Raise the characters' resistance to a certain status ailment.

[edit] Trigger Conditions

Just like the parts of the four types of Special Moves, trigger or activation condition can be set and customized. These conditions can be acquired upon reconstruction of their corresponding Trigger Lab in the Fort-Lune. The multipliers indicate the number of times a condition must be met for each level of Special Move to become usable (e.g. Use Brave ten times to use Hack and Slash, Use Default twenty times to use Bolt Storm.)
